Centennial Summer Palace—Memorial Exhibition on the Centenary of Summer Palace’s Opening to the Public (2014)

As one of the highlights of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Summer Palace’s opening to the public, Summer Palace Management Office launched the exhibition entitled “Centennial Summer Palace (1914-2014)—Memorial Exhibition on the Centenary of Summer Palace’s Opening to the Public” at the Make-up Building of Dehe Garden from June 6 to September 20, 2014. The exhibition covers five stages of Summer Palace’s development, “Initial Opening of the Forbidden Garden (1914-1927)”, “Trail-blazing and Pioneering Days (1928-1948)”, “Thriving Advancement (1949-1977)”, “Progressing Era (1978-1997)” and “Resplendent Heritage (1998-2014)”. With a total of 454 pieces of artifacts of various types, photos and information documents on display, this exhibition provides an academically in-depth summary and review of the one-hundred-year history of the Summer Palace since its opening to the public featuring a scientific system, rich content, informative data and stereoscopic images. It is of positive significance for the general public to gain a profound understanding of the Summer Palace’s social value and its evolutionary changes over a century and meanwhile for the staff members in the Summer Palace to be equipped with more knowledge about and be imbued with enthusiasm and love for this grand garden.
