March 2016 witnessed the successful launching of “Special Artifact Exhibition of Two Emperors’ Tutor Weng Tonghe and the Weng Family”, which was co-hosted by the Summer Palace and Changshu Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, Television, Press and Publication and organized by Changshu Museum with the all-out support from State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH) and Art Exhibitions China (AEC). With a total of 66 pieces/sets of cultural relics on display, the exhibition consists of three feature parts, “Master Calligrapher and Writer”, “Prominent Imperial Tutor and Pivotal Figure in Politics” and “Returning to Hometown and Resuming Literary and Artistic Creation”. This exhibition aims at unveiling the political philosophy, literati temperament and calligraphy attainments of Weng Tonghe and the Weng family from different perspectives. Given that the most influential cultural minister and the central place of political activities in the late Qing dynasty are the highlights of the show, the exhibition, as the very first stop of the Beijing Exhibition tour organized by Changshu Museum, has been widely acclaimed by visitors from all walks of life.
