Bridge of Banana-Plant (Xing Qiao)

222.jpg

Originally built during Emperor Qianlong’s reign (1736-1795), the pavilion on the bridge was burned down in 1860 by the Anglo-French Allied Forces. It was rebuilt during the reign of Emperor Guangxu. Its name came from a line of a song in the “Book of Songs”, which says “Banana-plants are randomly afloat, I will have to pick them up here and there”.
