Fragrance of Calligraphy Floating on the Sea—Exhibition of Selected Works of Shanghai-style Painting and Calligraphy in Shanghai Yu Garden (

In April 2016, Summer Palace Management Office co-hosted the exhibition entitled “Fragrance of Calligraphy Floating on the Sea—Exhibition of Selected Works of Shanghai-style Painting and Calligraphy in Shanghai Yu Garden” with Shanghai Yu Garden Management Office. There are a total of 44 pieces/sets of exhibits, which include 8 national second-level cultural relics and 27 national third-level artifacts. The exhibition mainly presents the brilliant artworks of painting and calligraphy featuring Shanghai style since the late Qing dynasty and the beginning of Republic of China, including masterpieces by such accomplished masters as Ren Bonian, Wu Changshuo and Pu Hua. This is another joint program since the successful display of “Treasures of Empress Dowager Cixi— Exhibits from Her Residence in Summer Palace” at Yu Garden in 2015. It is also the first time for Yu Garden to put on display the Shanghai-style paintings and calligraphy in the Summer Palace, thus reflecting positive and concerted efforts made by the two cities and the two famous gardens in the North and in the South respectively to promote the development of history and culture.
