From Emperor to Citizen (2013)

In August 2013, Summer Palace Management Office co-hosted with Changchun Museum of the Imperial Palace of “Manchukuo” a special exhibition about Pu Yi entitled “From Emperor to Citizen” at the Exhibition Hall of the Make-up Building in Dehe Garden. The exhibition consists of five parts, “Last Emperor”, “Resident in Tianjin”, “Puppet Emperor of Manchukuo”, “Special War Criminal” and “Ordinary Citizen”, thus giving a brief account of the ups and downs of Pu Yi, a legendary figure and the last emperor of the Qing dynasty. As an extension of the Summer Palace’s history and culture, this exhibition is of positive significance to keep the public well-informed of China’s modern history and enhance people’s patriotic sentiment. As a return visit to “Treasures of Empress Dowager Cixi— Exhibits from Her Residence in Summer Palace”, this exhibition has further strengthened communication and cooperation between the Summer Palace and Changchun Museum of the Imperial Palace of “Manchukuo”.
